Advantageously employing a data base by the McKinsey Global Institute, the Urban World app, predicts the behaviour of over 2,600 cities by 2025.
Predicting urban behaviour with a digital app /
The tendency towards population concentration in cities is an undeniable fact, which is why predicting the necessities that will originate as the result of the incessant migration towards urban centres is crucial when facing the challenges that will derive from this phenomenon. According to an urban report from 2012 from the McKinsey Global Institute, by 2025 the 440 largest cities within developing countries, will host at least half the global economic growth.
The Urban World app, using the data base made by this institute and developed by McKinsey & Company, allows us to locate the 2025 predictions of urban behaviour in any continent, country or city. Said prediction includes consumption and production habits, as well as population growth and cultural preferences. They estimate, for example that the 600 cities with a greater population growth will increase their number of citizens 1.6 times faster than the rest of the world.
The information and data derived from this app, as well as being interesting, are useful for any type of projects, from business, to ecologic and social programmes —we could go as far as considering it as a dream artefact from urban planners. We must keep in mind that statistics are necessary to prepare for the exciting challenges of the future, or, to take advantage of the opportunities global tendencies entail.Tagged: urbanism, apps, human behavior, urban behaviour, Urban World app
