The Secrets Of Oxytocin (Some Advice To Self-Generate)
Oxytocin, also known as the “love hormone”, is responsible for generating the longest-lasting wellbeing sensations in the human body.
In the last few years an effervescence surrounding the benefits of oxytocin has been generated, the so-called “love hormone”. This neuropeptide which acts in the body and brain, is the biochemical representation of emotional and sexual intimacy —which is why, to no-one’s wonder, it is considered an elixir of sorts.
Until a few years ago, oxytocin was believed to only be generated during sex and during childbirth, since at these moments the discharge of the hormone is extremely powerful. We now know that the hormone can be produced in more subtle ways during activities that promote social bonds.
The importance of generating oxytocin should not be forgotten. The happiest moments in life are usually flooded with oxytocin and in their repetition, they consolidate a healthy life. Oxytocin has been shown to reduce the effect of cortisol in several research studies, the so-called “stress hormone”. We know that nowadays, stress is our health’s sworn enemy. Likewise, oxytocin helps us rid ourselves of fear, regulating the amygdala’s actions. Additionally to reducing stress, this allows us to have better socialisation and according to Harvard’s Grant study, intimate relations are the most important factor that will lead to a long and well-lived life.
Those who wish to produce oxytocin should seek to have sexual intercourse where an emotional bond exists. However, reaching the sexual act is not necessary: hugs, caresses (touching a woman’s nipples is particularly effective) and kissing are the most efficient ways to produce oxytocin; however touching is not the only way to produce oxytocin, although it is certainly the most obvious. Playing with our children, sealing deals with a business partner, playing team sports among other activities in which intimate moments are shared also encourage the production of this neuropeptide.
A manner in which we can encourage the generation of oxytocin easily is simply to share a secret or an intimate fact with someone; this could be someone you just met. This leads to an increase in trust towards this person, and trust is precisely what oxytocin is all about.
Some studies show that there is a correlation between synchronic behaviour —the degree in which smiles and gazes mimic between parents and their children — and the increase of oxytocin. This does not mean that smiling and staring people in the eyes produces oxytocin, but it is not completely out of place to think that smiling and keeping an eye out for other people’s gestures can also generate an increase in the precious chemical substance.
One can find online numerous synthetic oxytocin products for sale, but there are currently no scientific studies that validate their usefulness. For now, having an empathetic attitude and emotional openness would seem like a better path to pursue: the faucet handles of love’s chemistry are within us.
